Artist Mark Kulas working on his painting titled Trading Places

Born in Ottawa, Ontario and growing up on the shores of Golden Lake, I had access to endless miles of waterways and Canadian Shield. Inspiration came naturally. I now live in Pembroke, Ontario and divide my time between the Ottawa Valley and the family cottage in Muskoka.

My spare time is invested in training to stay competitive in cross-county skiing, masters swimming and cycling. On the roof of my vehicle there is usually a canoe or kayak at the ready to explore some lake or river which looks inviting and has the potential for reference and subject matter.

I paint acrylics depicting scenes and concepts inspired by the wilderness of the Ottawa Valley, Algonquin Park and Muskoka. My work in graphic design, illustration and photography helped me develop the skill and discipline necessary to create my art.
